How the numbers work
On a current style mark the two numbers are its age identifier: 75 was issued from Sept. 2025, so it can only go on a car registered then or later. On a prefix mark the number sits after the year letter and can be anything from 1 to 999, which is where 1, 11 and 111 are found. A Northern Irish mark carries a number of up to four digits and no year at all, so it fits a vehicle of any age.
