Who we are
The controller of your information is New Reg Limited, which trades as Private Plates.
What we hold
Your name, email address and phone number, so we can confirm your order and reach you about the transfer. Your address, for delivery. The name on the V5C and the year of the vehicle, if you give them, so the private plate can be assigned.
Marketing
We only send marketing if you have asked for it. You can stop it at any time from any message we send.
Telephone calls
We record telephone calls, so that we have an accurate record of what was agreed, for training, and to deal with complaints and legal claims. We do not pass a recording to anybody else unless you ask us to, the law requires it, or we need it for a complaint or a claim. You can ask for a copy of a recording of your own call and the first copy is free.
We keep a recording only for as long as we need it for those purposes, and then delete it.
If you list a private plate with us
We hold the registration, your asking price, your name, your account email and the mobile number you give us, and the agreement you ticked, word for word. We use them to ask you, every 5 days, whether the private plate is still available and still your price, by WhatsApp and by email, because that is the arrangement you asked for. Every message carries a way to stop, and taking the listing down ends them. We keep the record while the listing is live. A year after it comes down we remove your name, email and mobile and keep the registration and price history.
Card details
We never see or hold your card number. Payment details are collected by our payment provider directly.
What you do on this website
If you allow analytics, we record your activity on this website and we keep it. Every private plate you search for, the vehicle you check your results against, the categories you open, the private plates you look at, save or share, the pages you move between and how long you spend on them. We do this so that we can improve the service we offer you, and we would rather be clear about it than leave you to find it out.
We record it whether or not you have an account. Without one, nothing we record has a name attached to it: a private plate you search for is a string of letters and we have no way to connect it to you. With an account, it is kept against that account, so we can understand what you have been looking for and serve you better next time.
Your account also keeps its own record of what you searched for and the private plates you opened while signed in, and the vehicles you give us. That is part of the account rather than analytics, so it is kept whether or not you allow analytics: it is how your account shows you where you left off and fills in what you have already told us. You can send that record to your own email or mobile and clear it from your account at any time. Clearing it removes it from your account; we keep the underlying record for the five years above, and it is deleted with your account.
We keep it for five years and then delete it. Some things are never recorded at all: passwords, card details, the words of any message you send us, your email address and your telephone number. We do not fingerprint your device.
With analytics on, we also use Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are used: where you tap, click and scroll, which we can watch back as a recording of the visit or see as a heatmap. Anything you type is hidden before it leaves your device, and nothing is recorded on the checkout, your details, your account, your orders or the pages where you send us documents. Microsoft holds the recordings for us, for 30 days, or up to 13 months for one we mark to keep.
The registration of your own vehicle is not kept in our analytics. When you use it to limit results we record the make, the model and the year of the car and discard the registration itself. With an account, the vehicle is kept on your account until you remove it.
None of this runs until you have agreed to it, and you can withdraw at any time from cookie settings, which also deletes the identifiers we made. You can ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you, or ask us to delete it.
Our cookie notice covers what is stored in your browser, the terms and conditions set out what you buy under, accessibility says how the site is built for everyone, and contact us is where to raise anything.
