What a private plate costs
The price of a private plate includes VAT and the compulsory £80.00 DVLA assignment fee. Delivery of your certificate is free, nothing is added at the checkout, and every optional extra is priced before you order.
By default, the prices in our search results are shown excluding VAT, the compulsory £80.00 DVLA assignment fee, and any additional services or items you may choose to add during checkout, such as physical number plates or upgraded delivery.
If you would rather see every price including VAT and the £80.00 DVLA assignment fee, open Filters & View on any results page and, under Price shown, choose Inc. VAT & DVLA fee. The results update immediately.
Whichever you choose, the price you see before you order is the full price of the private plate. It includes VAT and the compulsory £80.00 DVLA assignment fee.
There are no hidden charges and you do not have to order anything else. You can order the private plate on its own, receive the V750 certificate by free Royal Mail Second Class delivery and assign the private plate to your vehicle yourself with DVLA Swansea. You will have nothing more to pay us.
How our prices compare
Every registration on this site has never been assigned to a vehicle. Those the DVLA also offers are priced below the DVLA’s own published price for the same mark, currently by £1.00. The price includes VAT and the £80.00 DVLA assignment fee, as the DVLA’s does. Nothing else is compulsory: you can assign the registration yourself at no further cost. What you are ordering
You are ordering the right to display the private plate on a suitable vehicle, which is yours once we have secured it. You are not ordering physical number plates or a vehicle.
The letters and numbers that make up the private plate are legally known as the registration mark.
Your V750 Certificate of Entitlement proves that you have the right to assign the registration mark to a suitable vehicle.
The £80.00 DVLA assignment fee
The DVLA charges £80.00 to assign a registration mark to a vehicle. This is a compulsory fee that is retained in full by the DVLA.
Search results exclude the £80.00 fee unless you switch the price shown to include it. The full price in your basket and order summary always includes it, and we show it separately there so that you can see exactly what the price is made up of. Nothing is added at the checkout.
Assign your private plate yourself
You can assign the private plate to your vehicle yourself. We will send you the V750 certificate, which contains the information you need to complete the assignment with DVLA Swansea.
There is no additional charge from us for doing this yourself.
Let us assign your private plate for you
If you prefer, our experienced team can deal with the DVLA assignment for you. This optional service costs £20.00 per private plate, so an order for two private plates going onto two vehicles is £40.00. Our trained staff assign the registration mark to your vehicle and the DVLA sends your new V5C directly to you, so there is no certificate to post.
The service is not selected automatically. Simply add it during checkout if you would like to benefit from our decades of experience navigating DVLA procedures and transferring private plates.
Number plates
You can also order number plates during checkout. This is optional and the price will be shown clearly before you order.
We offer a choice of legal sizes, styles and personalisation options. Ordering your number plates with your private plate saves you from having to visit another number plate supplier. We will manufacture your number plates and deliver them to your door.
You are also free to have your number plates manufactured by any other DVLA-registered supplier.

Delivery
Free Royal Mail Second Class delivery is included when you order the private plate on its own. This normally arrives within three working days.
A tracked service is also available for an additional charge: Royal Mail Signed For is £10.95, Royal Mail Special Delivery is £16.95 including VAT. You choose during checkout.
An upgrade is yours to take whether or not you order number plates. If you would like your V750 certificate to travel signed for, or guaranteed for the next working day and insured, choose it during checkout and pay the extra.
We remain responsible for your order until it is delivered to you. If it has not arrived within the expected time, tell us and we will investigate it with Royal Mail and either send a replacement or refund you.
Number plates are always sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, tracked and signed for on arrival, and the postage is included in their price. Any paperwork you have bought goes inside the same packaging.
If you order number plates and choose to assign the private plate yourself with DVLA Swansea, we will place your V750 certificate in the same package as your number plates. If you have chosen an upgrade, everything travels together that way.

Other charges
Two charges can arise once the private plate has been secured for you, and neither is added to an order at the checkout.
- Cancelling once secured: £50.00 including VAT. Once the registration mark has been secured for you it cannot be cancelled, because the documentation has been processed and the mark is reserved and personal to you. If you wish to cancel, tell us in writing; for this fee we refund any parts of your order not yet fulfilled and send one request to the DVLA to cancel the documentation and refund the fee.
- Changing the nominee once secured: £20.00 including VAT, because it is an amendment to documentation already processed.
No hidden charges
Before you order, you will see:

- Your final total
The total you see before you order is the most you will pay. Nothing will be added afterwards.
