Number plate sizes
Measure the number plate you have before ordering. A number plate that does not fit the recess is a number plate you cannot use.
Every size below is road legal and made to BS AU 145e, the standard behind the character heights and spacing set out in displaying number plates on gov.uk.
The sizes we make as standard
| Size | Fits |
|---|---|
| 520 x 111mm, standard oblong | Most cars and vans |
| 284 x 210mm, square | Older vehicles and some 4x4s |
| 330 x 178mm, import | Japanese and American imports |
| 235 x 178mm, motorcycle | Motorcycles and tricycles, rear only |
Every size we make
The full range covers standard, oversized, import, hex and shaped number plates, including the shaped profiles for particular Jaguar, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Range Rover and Daihatsu models. Every one is drawn to scale when you buy number plates for a registration mark you already hold, so you can pick the shape by eye. If you are not sure, email us and we will match it.
Two-line number plates
Square, import and motorcycle number plates carry the registration mark on two lines. The split follows the registration mark’s own two groups, so AB12 CDE becomes AB12 over CDE. It is not a choice, and character spacing is fixed by law either way. What makes a number plate legal sets out the measurements.
A motorcycle or tricycle registered on or after 1 Sept. 2001 must display a rear number plate only.
Measure before you order
Measure the number plate currently on the vehicle, or the recess it sits in, edge to edge. If you are between sizes, send us a photograph with a tape measure in it and we will tell you which one you need.
