We have been buying and selling private plates since 1989. Our founder was appointed OBE in 2013 and was the overall United Kingdom winner of EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2019. In 2026 Car.co.uk, also run by New Reg Limited, won the King’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation.

What we do

We hold and supply private plates, and make road-legal number plates to British Standard. We will deal with the DVLA for you if you want us to, and most people apply to DVLA Swansea themselves. If you are selling, we will value what you hold and find it a buyer.

PrivatePlates.co.uk is a trading name of New Reg Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 03143909, with its registered office at 5 Parkgate, 117 Liverpool Road, Longton, Preston, PR4 5AA. We are registered for VAT under 604 5464 55, which is why every price on this site includes it. You can check the company on the public register before you buy anything, and we would rather you did.

Why the registrations here have no history

Every private plate on this site has never been assigned to a vehicle, so it has no previous keeper and nothing to inherit. It arrives on a V750 Certificate of Entitlement in the name you give us, and it is yours to assign whenever you are ready, or to hold on the certificate until you are. Transfers and retention sets out what that means in practice.

What we are not

We are a private company and we are not affiliated with the DVLA. The DVLA’s assignment fee is the government’s own charge and is paid to them in full.
